If you don't want to void your warranty by rooting, apparently there is a workaround to the SD card problem in KitKat. According to several android forums, you can still use the native File Manager to move photos and music from the internal memory to the SD card and vice versa. For example, if you take a photo with the tablet camera app, it will store them on the SD card. So then if you want to change this photo with a 3rd party app like Pixlr Express, you have to go into the File Manager and move the photo to internal memory so that the 3rd party app can modify it. Then if you want to put it back on the SD card, you have to go through the file manager again! I guess the same thing applies to a music file. KitKat appears to have made things more complicated instead of simplifying things like they said it would! At least you can kind of manage to get around it. my understanding is that other apps can access each others folders as read only but any changes you make to that file will be saved in the app you opened it in. You create a duplicate rather than overwrite the original. Not looked into it much though. Sent from my GT-N5110 using proboards

It's a good looking tablet but although 7inches doesnt sound that much smaller than 8, it actually results in 25% less screen. My brother has the old nexus 7 tablet and I found it to small. The price is hard to argue against though. Saying that, the only Note 8.0 (which I paid £300 for), is now down to £200 in various places as the newer version is due out soon.
I find it frustrating that 7 inches and 10 inches are the standard for android tablets as I feel 8/9 and 11/12 are more ideal sizes for portable devices. Well, at least ones that people would use to create on (writing / drawing etc) rather than just consume through (video / games / internet etc). I'm hoping the Note pro opens the market to more alternative sizes to the tablet standards.
It may just be that I'm used to a4 and a5 as the standard sizes of paper that I use that I'd like tablets of similar form factor.

Ive been using pixlr express for it at the moment, but as far as i can tell you can only use the pre set textures and can not import your own. I can import textures into a few different apps, but what I havent figured out is what layer blend setting I need in order to get my required effect. Clover Paint has just updated with some new blend modes though. I'll have a play when I get some time after I am home from my business trip.

Does anyone know of an app and layer settling that would allow for texture overlay? I always think digital work looks to clean

I cant afford it but id love one of these! www.trustedreviews.com/samsung-galaxy-notepro_Tablet_reviewSeems like it would be really nice to draw with. Cant imagine how much additional room id have compared to my Note 8. I cant see it being very handy for drawing on the move though. Hopefully i'll win the lotto and be able to pick one of these giants up.

I'm not that familiar with the IOS platform but recently got an Iphone 5s. Do those of you who use memory intensive apps notice any improvements in performance by using an app that frees up memory in the back ground or is IOS good at making that memory available for you automatically?
My phone is always telling me that I have about 98% memory in use, which im fine with as it means everything i run regularly can be accessed faster. I just wondered if this "habit" of pre loading the memory effected the performance of RAM resource heavy applications.
When I'm using an art app on my android tablet I always make a habit of clearing any apps running in the background and clearing up the RAM in use so that I know I have my tablets full resources allocated to the task in hand.

I bought my Note as I was fed up of carrying a heavy pad of paper and pencil with me on the off chance I felt the urge to sketch, as well as note book and other bits and bobs. The price felt right. I'm finding it hard to adapt to the digital world of drawing though. I'm sure with practice and persistance ill be able to replicate the results in a similar time frame that i get using a pencil on paper but I'm a long way off that yet. I find it hard to find the inspiration. I get an idea, but when it doesnt pan out as quickly or as good as I'd like I become dishartened. Rather than do ideas from scratch, I'm going to start copying some of my favourite drawings from other artists for a while so that I can get more comfortable with the medium. Hopefully then I will find the creative process less painful.
In case you dont know, the Spen is built of WACOM digitizer technology. I bring that up as it means you can use any Wacom stylus with the Note series. If you like a chunkier Pen (brush), then there are plenty of options available besides the pens that came with your tablets.
Back to the topic at hand. Not had a response over on XDA but im heading home from work now. I'll keep an eye out in the morning and let you know what I hear.

Over on the Note 8 XDA forum my coment with regards to sd card write limitations got the response "where did you get that nonsence from?". I've posted several links to sources talking about this issue and am waiting for a responce... May be there is an easy fix?! but my feeling is that its more likely that they haven't been keeping tabs on the latest news as it does seem like a crazy move by google. People love android over IOS because of the customisation and expandability of the platform. I have no bias either way, I own an Iphone and 2 android tablets...

The ability to store app data on apps has been reserved for Root users only for a while, but resticting the abibility to copy movie, pictures etc. on to a SD card would seem mad. It would defeat the purpose of having an sd card slot on their devices unless you are getting your movies and music elsewhere and are only reading it, but it seems like that is what they are intending. More information... www.androidpolice.com/2014/02/17/external-blues-google-has-brought-big-changes-to-sd-cards-in-kitkat-and-even-samsung-may-be-implementing-them/Doesnt look like there is going to be a non Root solution having had a quick search over on the XDA forums. It also doesnt seem like something they will fix in future updates. Rooting is not a difficult process though and there are plenty of guides available that can help you with that. It also opens up the posibility of flashing leaner ROMS thus freeing up more memory (RAM) and storage for your favourite apps as well as allowing for over clocking of the CPU and GPU if your fealing particularly brave. If space is a problem, have you considered Rooting your tablet and using an app like "folder mount"?
I have a 16gb note 8 but have over 25gb of apps installed as I mount the games data folders on to my microSD card using this method.
I have multiple devices and the games I play on each differ. I play simple touch controlled games on my mobile such as jetpack joyride, temple run 2, nimble quest, wheres my mickey? and the like. Rediculous Fishing is my favourite. I also like playing racing games on my mobile as its lighter and less tiring on the arms.
I tend to play more strategy based games on my tablets. tower defence games (Kingdom Rush is my favourite, although the Anomaly series is also great), turn based strategy games (great little war game) etc. There is an adventure game called HORN that i really enjoy. I prefer angry birds and PvZ on my tablet as I find I am more accurate with the larger screen. Im also partial to a bit of pinball (Zen Pinball is my favourite, but Pinball Arcade is the most realistic as it replicates real tables from the 70's 80's and 90's).
I only play 1st and 3rd person games on my larger tablet as I cant get to grips with them using touch controls and like to plug my PS3 controller in to play.
In terms of art style id recomend: Horn for the environments and enemies, anomaly for the environments and weaponry the cut scenes are also good, there are many good RPG games like Grinsia and Eymphony of eternity. Jet pack joyride and Triple town are both fun and cute with their art style.

There are various note taking apps available including S Note that comes with the Samsung Note range, for me though, 2 really stand out.
Write - Free
Lecture Notes - £2.69
I'd highly recomend both.
If you have S Note then I'd also highly recomend Snap Pad as an add on - £1.12

I have: Posing App - this is more for photography but still applies for drawing. Handy - specific for drawing hands. various different hand poses. can change light source and direction Pose Tool and Manga Pose tool - essensially the same thing. the manga one has slightly distorted features though (big head, eyes etc). ability to manipulate manaquin, light sources etc... I have 2 of the Mara 3D tools, didnt realise they had more. I'll check them out. Thanks

My favorite on your list is Infinite Painter. The developer, Sean Brakefield, works very hard to improve this app and with every update it gets better and better. There is another app called Serious Paint that is pretty good. I haven't worked with it extensively yet, but I will. ArtRage has promised they are making an android app, but there is no release date yet. I think Adobe is not supporting Adobe Ideas for android anymore. Colors is an awesome app that lets you watch the playback of how a picture is painted. Doodledroid is nice, but doesn't have layers. Still I have made some nice paintings with it. Magic Doodle Premium is a pretty good program. Pencil Madness is a simple sketching program. Zen Brush is really fun and has some neat backgrounds to sketch on. Line Brush is a neat program that mimics natural media, but it doesn't have layers. Silk Paints is a neat program. The developer of Paperless has come out with a new app called Ink- Sketch, Paint, and Draw. It has more drawing tools than Paperless. There are some more simple apps, but those are the more complex ones that have recently come out for Android. Personally, I can't wait for ArRage. I have it on my PC and I just love it! It will be great on my Galaxy Note 8 and 10.1 tablets! Wow, seems like you have tried quite a number of Apps, I'll add them to the list. If yourself or Sean would like to give me a list of the features in Infinite painter, ill happily add them to the list. I want it to be a fair representation of what each app can do, but I dont have time to try them all out myself.

We finally have color blend mode (like in photoshop). Hue, Saturation and Luminance blend modes have also been added.
I've yet to test it out yet but look forward to trying it out when I get home. This could change the way I draw!
