Very tempting. My brother has had the Surface 2 for just over a year now and has been impressed with it and my Sister also got one a few months ago. Neither use it for drawing although my brother mad use CAD software on it (I'm not sure, he was meant to be studying in California for a year abroad for uni but he has mostly been going on adventures and partying).
I've only just repaired my old 2009 laptop that had hdd failure. Put an SSD in it and im happy with the increase in performance i've gained as such. When my funds are in a possition where I can allow myself to buy a new toy, this may be high on the list. I had been looking at the Samsung ATIV tabs with the 11.6 inch screens and i5 processors (5, 7 or smart pc pro). its not easy to see the differences between them all though.

Lots of discussion over on the XDA boards. I'll be monitoring over the next few weeks. Will probably flash a modded version when I'm on holiday in a few weeks.

Ive never scratched a screen yet *touch wood* and havent used them on my other tablets. I did how ever on my Note. Partly for the protection and partly because I choose one that would give me slightly more friction with the stylus thus giving me a surface that felt more like what I am used to (pencil on paper)

A list of systems apps I feel should be installed on all tablets regardless of what people use them for.
ES File Explorer Much better than the default file explorer. Intuative and feature rich.
Disk Usage Allows you to see exactly what is taking up the available space on your device including the hidden and unaccesable files. Displayed in a way that highlights the size of each file helping you identify what is hogging your SD card.
Auto Airplane Mode Puts your phone in airplane mode when ever the screen is turned off, thus saving your battery.
Taskbar 7 Task bar similar to windows. See all the apps that are open and easily switch from them. Also works as a start bar and app killer.
MobileCare General Maintanance, disk cleaner, anti virus with the bonus feature of "Game Booster". This shuts down all background apps and prevents them reopening ensuring the app you open through it is getting the maximum resource available.

Welcome to the forum. I added your Flickr profile to my favourites. I like your stuff. While I'm not the greatest at drawing and go long periods with out inspiration to draw (always seem to be too busy or too tired, poor excuses I know), I like to delve in to the inner workings of the android OS and various art apps (mostly CloverPaint). Happy to help with any technical questions you may have.
I'm guessing you have tried your Wacom pen on your Note tablet, they should be interchangable as they contain the same technology in their digitizers. I haven't found a good way to use the Note as a traditional tablet for drawing on a PC though, you can use a VPN client to clone your desktop to your tablet but this is laggy.
One of the things I would like to do is create an area for people with the CloverPaint extension to download and share their favourite brush settings for others to try out. Not sure where yet though...

I was not aware that there was an issue with this. I use ES File Explorer as my default file browser. So dont find my files using gallery etc. Hopefully you should be able to find the file you wish to open using that. It's one of the apps id list as "essential" regardless of what you use your tablet for.

I've tried various things and have only managed slight improvements with this issue. I'm going to take extreme measures this weekend I think and install a new Kernal and ROM and overclock the GPU to 640mhz (120% vs stock speed of 533mhz) to see if it makes an improvement to the rendering. I can do this with out increasing the voltage and still keep it stable so I should see little to no hit to the battery life.

Currently in the process of re-tweeking all my device settings to improve the performance of my tablet.
Wondered what performance others were getting. Post your scores (screen shot) on here for comparison. I'm using Antutu. I'll post my scores this evening and state if I was getting any difference with different settings and apps running in the background.

I posted the question over in the XDA forum as to whether changing and of the options in the dev section in settings would do anything to improve the performance issues we see when using larger canvas sizes and complex brushes. I'll post the feed back in the OS tweeks section of this forum. I already turn off the animation options in there as i prefer function over form. I dont use any type of live background and limit the amount of widgets I have active. I'm currently experimenting with limiting the background apps and forcing GPU rendering. I've noticed that with the ROM im looking to flash I can increase the GPU processor speed to 700mhz rather than 533mhz which is what mine is currently set to. I worry about the temperature of my device under load already though so not sure if I will make use of that.

It depends on the brush type as well. Gavin Ball (guy I linked some youtube videos on and who joined here recently) set up a brush specificially to counter this for when you are doing large drawing with lots of layers. That brush was mainly for doing block colour though. Do you have the hand shake correction on. That causes lag as well due to the additional processing required. It's mainly a hardware issue. Mobile processor and not much RAM for a programme thats trying to replicate a desktop drawing suite. I open the app using IOBIT MobileCare Gaming booster. This shuts down all other apps in the background and stops them from re opening ensuring the drawing app has as much resource as possible. www.iobit.com/advanced-mobile-care.php

These were the pencil sketches I did. 4 mins top row. 15 mins bottom row. I won't show the digital sketch I did in the 40 min slot as I'm really not happy with it

After going to a life drawing session last night I realized just how much I struggle to sketch in digital. I've always been a sketch artist, but have struggled when I take it further than pencils. That was one of the reasons l wanted to get this tablet. Much more convenient than carrying an art set around with me. After drawing for 40 min on here I still wasn't dote to my 15 minute sketch. Is that always the case or is there light at the end of the tunnel? I'm thinking if I'm to continue with this I'm going to have to alter my workflow.
l can't recreate my sketches to a standard I'm happy with, plus it takes me for longer. I'm now thinking of returning to pencil and paper. But... I'm thinking I could either scan or take a photo of my sketches so thAt I can colour it after.
