One of my favorite mobile games is getting a sequel. I just love Monument Valley because of the Escher-like artwork and the fantastic music. UsTwo has released a sequel to the first game and right now it is only available on IOS. (Hopefully coming to Android soon.) The first version was about a princess finding her lost people and this one will be about a journey of a mother and child. The artwork looks even more beautiful than the first game. Here is the link to their website. www.monumentvalleygame.com/

Pixarra has released the second version of Twisted Brush Paint Studio. This program is a scaled down version of Twisted Brush Pro Studio and just has the natural media brushes. The new improvements are improved brush editing, the ability to add your custom brushes to art sets, and new brushes plus performance improvements. The upgrade was around $9. You can buy this program for around $ 29, but you can try it out for free.

The watercolor simulating app Rebelle has just released their 2.0 version for desktop PCs. This app is very good at simulating watercolor, but it also has several other mediums including acrylic, pastels, and ink. The new improvements include a new brush engine, a brush creator, and stencils. You can buy this program for $89.99 or upgrade from Rebelle 1.0 for $39.99.

Paintstorm Studio has just released their upgrade to 2.0. One of the biggest changes is a different brush engine. The brushes are now smoother with a lot less lag for the big brushes. There has also been some new brushes added. I think the new brushes added are mostly natural media brushes. The UI has also been tweeked to be more user friendly. If you have already bought a license, this upgrade is free. Overall this update brought some really nice improvements.

The redesign of ArtFlow is here. ArtFlow 2.0 has been released with a completely new UI. All the old features are still included and there are some new features including better blending. There are still a few bugs to be workeđ out and some people have lost their projects, so save frequently. However, the ArtFlow developers have been releasing updates every day for bug fixes so they are definitely trying to fix any problems. I really like the new UI and the new brush menus. You can update it from the Google Play Store.

The newest Chromebook from Samsung now has the ability to run Android apps from the Google Play Store. Although there are still some flaws the tablets run most apps pretty well. Google will be releasing more updates in the Spring to fix a lot of bugs and other Chromebooks will be able to run Android apps too. There are two versions of the new Samsung Chromebook: the Plus and the Pro. The Pro has a faster processor than the Plus. They both have a 12.3 inch screen and a keyboard that folds back. The Samsung Chromebook Plus is available for sale right now for around $450. The Pro will be for sale later this Spring for around $550. Good news! The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 will come with an S-Pen! This tablet will be 9.7 inches and it will have higher specs than the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 tablet and the new 10.1 Tab A. This tablet seems to be the successor to the 2014 Note 10.1 and the Note 8. It will have 32GBs of internal storage. Autodesk has discontinued all of its 3D sculpting apps for Android, IOS, and Windows. That includes 123d Sculpt, 123 Create, and 123d Catch. I don't think they've given any reason why they are discontinuing these apps. It's too bad. They were a fun way to learn digital sculpting.

Hi Patty, Which version of Infinite Painter are you using? Is it the public version or did you sign up to be a beta tester? Right now Sean has a beta testing version that he is trying to work the bugs out of. You can sign up from the Infinite Painter Google Plus community, but save your work if you do because there are still some stability issues with the beta. Have you tried reducing the texture depth on those problem brushes? Sometimes if the texture depth is too high the brush won't make a mark. Glad you are getting some good out of my tutorials.

Microsoft has just introduced its latest addition to the Surface line. They have introduced a new desktop computer called the Surface Studio with a large touchscreen, Surface Pen, and a controller called the Surface Dial. The screen is very thin, about 28 inches and has a hinge mechanism to put the screen in a drawing position. Windows has also redesigned MS Paint and will be releasing it in Spring 2017. MS Paint will have 3D features and a totally new interface. The new Surface Dial controller works with MS Paint and other digital painting programs. Lenovo has released a new tablet with a flat keyboard in their Yoga Book series. The keyboard doubles as a drawing tablet too. It comes with a pen and you can use the drawing tablet part like a digital drawing tablet. You can draw directly on the tablet screen too, but that part isn't pressure sensitive. For those that don't mind not drawing directly on the screen, this is a pretty neat tablet. Lenovo has partnered with ArtRage and they have a version of it on the Yoga Book. You can get an Android or Windows version. Here is an article about it. www.artrage.com/artrage-2016-lenovo-yoga-book/

Windows 10 Anniversary update is now available for download. I have updated my Surface Pro 3 and the addition of Windows Ink is very nice. Basically it updates your sticky note features, adds a new drawing program, and best of all, adds the ability to customize your button clicks on the Surface Pen. Customizing the pen on the Surface Pro 3 has not been available, although it has been available on the Surface Pro 4 from a previous update. I have the latest Surface Pen and now I can customize which programs I can use. One click on the top button opens any program you want, two clicks can take a screenshot or open another program, and a long press will also open any program you want. So you can set your pen up for 3 different programs. I am really enjoying that! Before you could only open One Note, but now if you want, you can open Corel Painter or ArtRage!

Corel has just released Painter 2017. They have added a lot of new brushes this time. The new brushes are mainly texture brushes and glazing brushes. You can really get some neat effects with these new brushes. Right now if you own a previous versio of Painter, you can get it for $99. This is only for a limited time, so don't wait if you want the new version.

There is a new artistic photo filter app called Prisma. It has just been released for Android and I think it is also released on IOS. It is the best filter app for artistic effects that I have ever seen and its comic book filters are awesome. The app is free and available in the Google Play Store.
