Pretty ironic that iOS has the best note taking apps =p I don't think i've tried this one yet though... Papyrus is the one i find myself using most.

Wasn't planning on buying a new tablet anytime soon (recently got a Note4), but this is hard to pass up! Any thoughts on how this one performs with art apps in comparison to other Note tablets? ....Hoping Ellie might see this

I have to agree on it getting close to rivaling Procreate! And some aspects are better in IP, imho. I'd have to give the edge to Procreate, but not by a lot.... Procreate has awesome documentation. I hope to see more thorough documentation for IP at some point. There are still a few features that i'm not really sure about. I hope Sean (the developer) does well with it, and will keep improving it. Sounds like he is planning to

Yeah. I saw the webcast from earlier today, and it's looking a lot better than it was a year or so ago when i tried the trial. The free limited version is a good way to check out the feel of the strokes, but you really need the full $25 version to do anything beyond simple sketches i believe. They have added selections and a basic transform tool (not in free version) since i tried it last... I'm going to give the 15-day trial a shot soon, and will probably buy the full version. Here is the webinar from earlier... www.thefoundry.co.uk/events/live/tf-news/The author of the Force series of books gives a good demo around the 20min mark. There is also some talk of a possible iOS and Android version

Ha! That's awesome =) I'd probably be wanting a few models too if i could spend more time on 2d image creation. Desktop apps are still required for most of what i have to do.... Would like to pick your brain when i'm able to buy =)

Nice!! I always thought an iPad would remain my tablet of choice. The way things are progressing with the android painting apps lately, i may have to reconsider... iOS still seems more trouble free to me, and Procreate is still the best painting app i've tried so far. But the Note series with it's spen (and maybe some other android tablets(?)), i'm definitely reconsidering

Ah. Yeah, must only show up on smaller screens... The icon sitting out on the canvas is what i've been going on about It's there even when the gui is toggled off. All it does is make the device ignore your finger completely so that you can't even tap a button or pinch zoom. Dunno when i'd ever want to have it enabled It was in the last version as well, but was a pen icon.... Ah well. Thanks for your help and posting the screenshots. It explained a lot Oh, and yeah those are the settings i was looking in for the option to change the placement of sidebar. It must always bee on the bottom (portrait) or top (landscape) on the note phone screens i guess. That's where i'd want it anyway though i guess.

Yeah. I guess i should stay with the Note version, and try to ignore that ever-present "no finger" button taking up canvas space I can post a sshot if you haven't seen what i'm talking about I'm not seeing any of those options you mentioned :/ Those may be settings that only show on screens larger than my note 4's though(?) I have settings for Interface, Workflow, Hardware, and Stylus. Not seeing it under any of those sections though... I'm able to hold-drag things from the additional tools popup menu into the top bar, but that's all i'm seeing as far as customization of the layout. Please let me know if you think i may be overlooking something Thanks!

Was finally able to try the beta today (link for Note version was broken). I'm really liking the changes and additions a lot! It's not as responsive as the previous version, and still seems to have quite a few glitches. But i think when it gets it's final polish, it'll be the sketching/painting app that best fits my needs =) ....Otherwise, it'll be back to Clover Paint (reluctantly). Though Painter Mobile may also be an alternative for me soon(?) One thing that bugs me with the Note version of IP is the toggle button for touch input. There doesn't seem to be a way to remove it, and i *never* use it Anyone know if the non-note version is missing anything other than that button? If it has full support for the spen, i think i'll switch over to it instead.

Here is what i came up with for one with button access. It's actually a LOT easier to click than the actual button. Might get snagged on other stuff if carried in a pants pocket... Pretty obvious how you could make it work with a cutoff spen if you did want it to fit easily in your pocket. Anyways.... Here is a quick overview of how i went about it in case anyone is interested. Feel free to ask for more details - Make a hole in the barrel. I used a soldering iron, followed by a utility blade, followed by a lighter to melt the crumby edges. - Trim the barrel so that the button is centered below the hole when the spen and plug are inserted. Seems to work best if pressed a little closer to the center of the toggle switch rather than closer to the end of the btn. - Cut off a little sliver of plastic from your scraps, and wedge that in the barrel along with your spen to keep it in place. Doesn't take but a small sliver. No need for it to be so tight that it's difficult to get in. - Cut the clip off of another cap and bend the end of the clip 90 degrees to form a finger/hook (see pic) I used a lighter so that it would stay bent. Use some needle nose pliers to help with this. Bend it so that there is some excess finger. That will allow you to trim it a little if it is pressing the btn too easily. - Align the finger/hook with the hole and glue/melt/whatever in place. Otherwise it will not stay in place. I used a soldering iron, on the side opposite of the clip, to burn a hole through the clip sleeve and barrel to melt them together in that spot. - Use a cap from another pen I later cut the clip off the cap and shaved the cap round with a utility blade. This is just how i went about it. Using a drill, epoxy, other pen type, etc may be better. Or a detachable metal clip from another pen might be nice if you're not carrying it in a way that could scratch your device.

Don't think i've seen that one. Looks interesting! I'm keeping busy with Corel Painter Mobile (Just bought the full version) and Infinite Painter at the moment. I just put ISPD on my Play Store Wishlist though, and will be sure to check it out

Thanks for the tip, Ellie! Unfortunately, it's not compatible with my Note4 Will check out Zen Brush though RedBox isn't compatible with the Note4 yet either So maybe it's the same kinda deal with Sketchbook Ink, and it will be compatible after a future update(?) Will keep an eye on it.

Here are some spen holders I made from various pen parts. I like using them when i don't need the spen's button.. Some of these could probably be made to work with the button with some planning and extra work A) Uses cut off spen Cheap pen from Hobby Lobby clearance section. Gutted the pen cut it short, put the end cap back on the end. put some blue putty (used to hang posters and stuff) B) Uses cut off spen - Bic round stic barrel - Bic crystal cap with tip sliced down so that spen tightly fits through opening. May have glued the Crystal cap to the Round Stic barrel(?) - Rubber grip from old pen or pencil - Sharpie fine line cap used for the cap. I trimmed it down until the opening was tight enough to stay on tightly. (Cap doesn't fit great on the end, but stays on pretty well once you twist it on there) C) Uses full spen - Bic Round Stic (or papermate equivalent?) barrel - Tip and Cap same as "C" - RSVP pen grip - Sleeve on end was cut from a Bic Round Stick cap so that the cap will stay on the end - End plugged with original end cap D) Uses full spen - Sharpee knockoff pen from Dollar Tree (local dollar store) - Base of barrel has extrusions of plastic that grip the spen's end when inserted. I may have had to make the opening a little bigger with a drill or screwdriver if it was too tight(?) ....Tried lots of stuff with various pens, and don't recall exactly what worked here. The spen's silver part pressure fits into the base of the barrel though. - After cutting the tip down, the original cap wouldn't click on, but a regular sharpee marker cap pressure fits on it really well. Tools that come in handy::: - Utility/razor knife (with a NEW blade) and cutting board. - Really fine grit sandpaper to knock off rough edges or make parts fit together better comes in handy. - Good glue/epoxy if you can't get parts to pressure fit well enough on their own. - Wall mounting putty can come in handy for holding the pen in place, like in "A" above. - Pliers for removing end caps on some pens Also see I-Wei Haung's video. This is how i knew i could cut off the end of the stylus... youtu.be/WRXPeY4XiBQThe button still works after cutting the tip off of an N3 spen, btw. Haven't tried it on N4 stylus. Let me know if you have questions

No, i haven't. Will try to stop by someplace and try one just to be sure. Would be strange since it works great with both of my old note3 spens though.... Again- It's not a HUGE deal. If i hadn't compared the two pens, i probably wouldn't have thought much about it.
Will report back when i've tried another Note4.

I bought one from Best Buy a few days after the Note 3 was released last year. It was a bad unit or older model that didn't work well at all. Took it back, but they didn't have another one to replace it. Never got around to trying another one... Sounds like it may be the best bet if the N4 spen issue doesn't get worked out in some way. I also made some spen holders that work pretty well, and are a little more portable. I lose access to the button when using those though.
I don't mean to imply that the N4 spen is no good. the difference is only noticeable, to me, on really light strokes.

From my understanding, the issue is within the spen itself. I'm mainly basing that on the info in this video on "tuning" a Note 2 spen... youtu.be/qRbh4cOpKzMI pried the button off my N4 spen (as seen in vid), and there were no adjustment screws like on the N2 :/ It would be great if the apps just need to be updated to recognize the new N4 spen... I'm afraid that's not the case, but we can hope
