I deleted several apps and uninstalled and reinstalled updates to the Google Play Store and Youtube. Because my tablet started crashing on the day the Google Play Store was updated, I uninstalled all the updates and cleared the cache then reinstalled the latest version of the Play store. The Youtube app was also crashing so I did the same thing for it. Then I uninstalled a game called the Book of Life and a painting app for kids. I'm not sure which app was the culprit, but my tablet didn't crash today even when the battery got down to 4%. So I guess some app was freezing the tablet up completely. I installed a battery monitoring app and it didn't show any big fluctuations in battery draining, so it didn't seem to be a bad battery. Hopefully that fixed the problem cause I really like this tablet and have been using it for everything.

Yes, I am glad this was a software problem and not a hardware problem. I really like this tablet and I haven't had any trouble with Samsung tablets in the past (except the USB cords wear out). I highly recommend this tablet, but if you want to run windows software on a tablet there is the Surface Pro 3 or Wacom Cintiq companion. However, they are a lot more expensive (about double the price of the Galaxy Notes).

That tablet quit working last year. At least it lasted 6 years. I am looking at the tab s7 plus, but I am waiting for a price drop. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and a Tab S6 lite.
