Sounds like your brother is a typical college student, lol. Those tablets all look good. Maybe you could test the Surface Pro 2 if your brother ever comes home. I really don't know if the s pen is better or the Windows pen. I would probably lean towards Samsung if I was getting a windows tablet just because the android ones run so well. But the Surface Pro 3 looks really nice and evidently they are aiming it towards artists. It is tempting to have all my PC programs on a tablet. I was looking at the Cintiq Companion (just for fun cause it's really expensive) and it is probably the one artists would need for professional drawing, but the screen resolution is not as high as these other tablets. If the price wasn't so high on the windows tablets, I might consider one, but I guess I'll stick to android. One day all the tablets will probably be just as good as the desktop PCs with huge storage.

I really like using Polaris Office for looking at Pdf files and it has a good spreadsheet too. Office Suite 7 is very nice too. The Microsoft Office app is not compatible with my tablet. It may just be for phones.

There was yet another update for Clover Paint today. The developer said he reverted back to the old version because the new version still wasn't working on some tablets. I think he is trying to update it for kitkat and is having trouble making that compatible with the old versions. However, Clover Paint is still working okay on both of my note tablets. Since I had so much trouble with it, I gave up and exported my painting into Sketchbook Pro to finish it. Maybe I'll try again when all the latest bugs get worked out.

Samsung has unveiled it's newest tablets today. They are the Samsung Galaxy Tab S series with the Super AMOLED screens. These screens are supposed to be brighter and clearer than all other screen types. This tablet is apparently a direct competitor to the ipad air and has a higher screen resolution and is even lighter than the ipad air. It comes in two sizes 10.5 and 8.4 inch. It has all kinds of new features and comes with a free subscription to Marvel comics for three months. Unfortunately it doesn't have the s pen, but since these new tablets are coming out, the price of the Note 12.2 is going down even more. Hooray! The price of a used 64 GB Note Pro 12.2 tablet is now in the $599 range. I am going to watch and see if it will drop even lower. Probably the price will go back up when I get ready to get it, lol.

There is an app for android called True Sculpt which is a 3d sculpting program and it works pretty good. It isn't hooked up to any 3d printing service, but I suppose you could make a model and get it 3d printed on your own.

There was a new update for Clover Paint today. It fixed the problems from the last update. The UI was not loading half of the time and the rotation of the UI wasn't working right, but this update fixed all that.

Autodesk has several apps that are for 3D sculpting, but they are only available for ipad or PCs. They have 123d sculpt or 123d creature where you can sculpt 3d creatures or anything and get it 3d printed. Autodesk has said that they are working on Android apps for these programs so maybe they will have them soon. Autodesk is pretty good about bringing their apps to Android. There is a 3d printing app for Android called Let's Create Pottery where you can create a pot and get it 3d printed. I like to create the pots and export them into my painting programs where I can add my own designs to them, but you can't get those printed. I have downloaded Autodesk's PC sculpting program called Meshmixer and I use my tablets to make designs via the Splashtop Remote HD app. Meshmixer is a pretty neat program, but I will be looking forward to the android apps.

Clover Paint is supposed to support the tilt function of the Hybrid and there are shortcut keys you can set up, but I'm not sure if they all apply to the hybrid Cintiq. I don't think the Cintiq has multi window function , but you can download something like Floating Apps to give you some windows function. I'll see if I can find a comparison somewhere. A lot of artists are just getting the Note Pro 12.2 because the price is at least half that of the hybrid.

The problem was trying to get the files loaded for the advanced UI and evidently the update took care of that. The developer quickly responded to my email. He said since it was now recognizing my purchase, I needed to turn on the advanced UI. To do this you go to Gallery then Options, find where it says UI view and check the box that says Extension UI for Tablets. Then you restart the app and It brings up the advanced UI. So at least I got that fixed. I have noticed it's still having trouble loading the app since the new update, but I'm just glad I got the advanced UI back, lol.

The developer sent an email saying to check my network connection which I did and it still won't load the advanced UI. There was an update in the Google Play Store today and now it's worse than ever. Half the time I can't even load the old UI or exit out of the app. It finally started working right on my Note 10.1, but it was all messed up at first. I'm getting sort of irritated about this app. What good does it do to only have it on one tablet? Especially since I paid a lot of money for it! I will email the developer again since I haven't gotten a response from my last email. Update: The developer quickly responded to my email. He said since it was now recognizing my purchase, I needed to turn on the advanced UI. To do this you go to Gallery then Options, find where it says UI view and check the box that says Extension UI for Tablets. Then you restart the app and It brings up the advanced UI.

I was trying to work on my painting on both my Note 8 and 10.1 tablets and I accidentally deleted the acrylic brush on my Note 8. So I decided to uninstall and reinstall Clover Paint. Apparently a big mistake! Now I can't get the advanced UI to reload on my Note 8. I get a message that says EfT purchase recognized then it says loading and it won't go any further. If I stop it, it never loads the advanced UI. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, deleted the Clover Paint folder, cleared the app data on Clovrr Paint, cleared the app data on the Google Play Store and it still doesn't work. I've emailed the developer so I'll see what happens.

One of the tablet accessories that I look for is a good stand to help tilt my tablet upright for drawing. I have tried several things and I've finally found something really good. It's called the PadPillow and its made by Ipevo. It is made of lightweight foam and folds into a triangle shape which tilts your tablet upright and a strip of plastic keeps the tablet from slipping off. You can find this at amazon.com for a fairly decent price. It comes in two different sizes for big and small tablets. Here is the main website. www.ipevo.com

Jelly Defense by Infinite Dreams is a tower defense game sort of like Plants vs. Zombies. The premise of the game is to help some aliens protect their green gems from invaders. You drag and drop towers into strategic spots to shoot at the invaders. Red towers can only shoot red invaders and blue towers can only hit blue monsters. Red and blue hybrid towers can hit both. You can also build special towers, but these are more expensive. You gain coins by shooting the monsters and these coins can be used to upgrade your towers or buy new towers. This game has a great quirky little soundtrack that you can recreate in their other app, Jelly Band. That app is probably geared more for children. In Jelly Band you can drag and drop the monsters on stage and each one plays a different instrument. You can make different tunes and record the performances. Both apps are a lot of fun and the graphics are very nice. I will confess that I am hooked on Jelly Defense right now, lol.

Let us know how it runs. I'll just wait to see how kitkat runs when I can afford the Note Pro 12.2. (I'm waiting for the price to break into the $500 range for the 64 GB.)

ES File Explorer works great and I found out that Astro File Manager will also work with Clover Paint to import PSD files.
