I accidentally deleted 1 of my brushes (Blur Hard), but when I try to import from CP's brushes file (that I got off their website), CP crashes every time. I'm using a brand-new Samsung Galaxy Tab S.
Is there some other way I can get Blur Hard back? Are there simple brush changes to Blur that I could make to re-create Blur Hard?
Re-arranging clovers in the clover window is implemented in a truly terrible, clumsy, error-prone way.

I did the same thing to one of the brushes too. The only way I could fix it was to uninstall and reinstall the app. If that doesn't work after you reinstall it, clear the cache. You might have to clear the data too. Make sure you save all your projects in another file. Hope that helps.

I bought the Extension for Tablets, and I've heard people having problems with that, I'd hate to lose it on the re-install.
Are you able to post/send me screenshots of the brush dialog for Blur Hard? Maybe I can just re-configure a copy of Blur.

I had trouble getting the extension back until I got help from the developer. You have to make sure you have the UI extension box checked in the settings. Here's the screenshot.

Thanks. I'll see what I can manage with the screenshots.
The interface really shouldn't be so clumsy and error-prone. Re-arranging brushes in the clover window is crazy with the whole copy, cut, insert, overwrite. Even if you choose insert, if you're near the last spot in the palette, it'll overwrite anyway. It's a mess. It should be drag and drop.
It should have more clover windows, for more free spots. And maybe one clover window of all the original brushes that isn't editable, so we can never lose the original brushes.
There should be a "brush delete undo" in case we lose a brush with the clumsy interface. Or just do away with the whole "overwrite" idea. Make us explicitly delete brushes instead of accidentally overwriting. It's not like we're re-arranging brushes several times a minute, for many hours per day. If the process were a little slower and less error-prone, it wouldn't be a big deal. Or at least pop-up an extra warning when we're about to lose a brush, to ensure that's really what we want.

I agree with everything you just said. I wish Clover Paint was more user friendly. Have you tried the new Infinite Painter, LayerPaint HD, ArtFlow, SketchBook Pro, or ArtRage? I use those apps a lot more because there is a big lag on Clover Paint when I try to paint with big brushes.

I sent those suggestions to the developer, he thought no one would want any of those changes but me, and they would only benefit me I think interface design isn't his strong suit. Maybe after more people make suggestions. Unless people are just giving-up because it's too impenetrable. I'm doing ok with it, but so far it's sometimes pretty weird and non-intuitive. I'll see what I think as I get deeper into it. Clover Paint has been the first app I've tried. I wanted something that could do a 3000 x 2400 canvas, and had drawing & painting tools (although odd there seems to be no color blend mode when painting), layers, good blur/smudge, and PSD export. CP seemed to be the only one. Well, I didn't look into LayerPaint, since there was so little English available about that app. Next I may try Serious Paint, since it will do large canvas, though it appears I'll have to use the brush editor to create a drawing tool. In CP I use a very narrow airbrush for sketching, and a very low flow airbrush for gradual shading. ArtFlow was the third app that did large canvas, but it won't do portrait orientation (I want the freedom to use either), so, I'm not sure what I'll do if Serious Paint doesn't measure up. Look more into LayerPaint I guess. I did investigate specs on Corel Painter, Infinite Painter, Sketchbook, ArtRage, and ArtFlow.

Let's see if I can help on some of that. Infinite Painter is the most feature rich program for android. The developer is working on increasing canvas sizes, but right now it goes up to 2560 X 2560. It has pencils, pens, blending paintbrushes, watercolor, harmony brushes, airbrushes, and calligraphy. It has a transform tool, scissors, perspective guides, mirror tools, filters, pattern makers, gradients, paper textures, layers, and line modes. You can export jpeg, psd, and png files. Instead of having different apps, the developer has just added different packets to buy in the app. This one is my favorite app because I prefer the natural media look.
LayerPaint HD technically can go up to 10,000 by 10,000, but it gets unstable at that size. I have been able to make canvases 6,000 by 6,000 that were pretty stable. It also has layer blend modes. It doesn't have as many brushes as Clover Paint or Infinite Painter, but it does have a blending brush and the watercolor brushes blend well. You can also arrange the UI. Also, you can import and export psd, png, and jpeg files.
ArtRage is just a straight out natural media painting program with quite a few layer effects. Corel Painter is a simple version of Infinite Painter. SketchBook has a lot of layer blending effects and some nice tools. They have gradients and blending brushes. They go up to 2830 X 2816.
I like Serious Paint, it's kind of like Infinite Painter, but not as advanced. It does have a brush lag when you create new brushes sometimes. I don't know how high the canvas size goes right now. I like ArtFlow, but I wish they would have better blending brushes.

One thing I like to do for my tablet paintings is to import them into PhotoZoom Pro 6 for the desktop PC and increase the size so I can print them at big sizes. You can increase the size and resolution with this program.

I looked at the brush dialog screenshots...a lot to go through Could you export and post your Blur Hard brush, maybe there's something wrong with the file posted at the dev's site? This has been the best place I've found so far for talking about Android art, are you aware of other good places to talk? Deviantart hasn't been as good as I thought it would be. Thanks for all the tips on other apps...food for thought on what I'll try next. The Serious Paint dev said there's no limit on canvas size, but if you make it too big for your device's capacity, you'll have limited layers/undo. You need to have version 1.9 though. >"increase the size so I can print them at big sizes. You can increase the size and resolution with this program." You might find this an interesting read: photo.stackexchange.com/a/48719What it boils down to is, what matters is "pixels per degree of visual arc", not "pixels per inch". When you print larger, people are going to stand back more, so a lower DPI isn't going to matter. You don't need Mercedes print ad resolution on a mural that's 20 ft x 10 ft. What matters is PPD (pixels per degree). A "low"-ish resolution image (say, 8MP) should look fine at normal viewing distances when printed at any size. For now I've picked 2400x3000, which gets you 67PPD at a 45 degree viewing angle, and works out to 300 DPI at 8x10.

I will try to export the Blur Brush. Right now what I'm doing isn't working and Clover Paint is crashing on me so I'll have to figure it out. Believe me there is never a simple solution with this program!
I really haven't found a lot of forums dealing with android art and that's why Ben started this forum. There are some Youtube people that have videos about how they do android art, but I haven't found any big groups. It's kind of a new topic because android is just starting to get some really good art apps and good drawing tablets. Hopefully the artists groups will grow.
Thanks for the article link, I will check it out.

Hemiolan, that worked, thanks! Now I can finish the piece I was working on. Too bad the developer didn't care at all about the import bug, or me missing a brush. Have you seen the import crash bug? I compared your color matrix to the one I got for Hard Blur at www.cloverpaint.net/images/built-in_brushes-en.pngThey are different! Argh! I'm sure the developer wouldn't care about that either. What a mess Clover Paint is. I'm going to have to seriously look into alternatives and hopefully find a better replacement for it. At least the Infinite Painter dev speaks English!

Glad you got it fixed! There is an Infinite Painter beta group on Google Plus that you can join and help work out bugs and give suggestions to the developer Sean Brakefield. He is very open and responsive to suggestions and tries to get bug fixes out quickly. Here's the link to the group. plus.google.com/communities/115913927013393817992

I'm glad you have your problem solved. Actually I don't think it was an import bug, but rather some problem with the CBSv2's png file. I had done the same comparison with the CBSv2 image before. Both looked the same on Windows, however color matrices in CBSv2's png were somehow changed when loading into Clover Paint. I had to save the png as a psd to preserve color codes. At that time Clover Paint did not crash in my case, it simply did nothing (since the color codes were augmented). It was months ago anyway, things may be different now. Also I had revised your issue and suggestions on FB for the dev. Apparently he did not catch your point and now looking into the issue. To be fair the dev is pretty responsive in addressing user feedback, provided that he understands what the problem is.

You mean you messaged him on FB? Or do you actually help run the CP FB page?

So far he seems like a terrible developer. I asked a simple question he never answered (I no longer care about the answer), I reported the bug (twice!) he ignored that, I made suggestions to improve the interface (the suggestions I summarized earlier in this thread), he said I should pay him a salary if I want the interface improved. And he makes the weirdest, unintuitive interface decisions, in so many ways (an observation many have echoed). This program will never make any sales without some key changes (some of them quite simple to change), though even then, the way he treats customers will be a problem. The way I feel now, I want to find a replacement program, and post a well-deserved negative review.
