For those of you that have windows tablets, there are several free painting programs that you can download. Fire Alpaca is a PC version of the android app Layerpaint HD and is pretty much the same layout (the same developer created both programs). Krita is a very nice program with a customizable UI. MyPaint is a nice program with lots of brushes you can download. Gimp is probably the most popular, but is kind of complicated. There are also some free versions of Twisted Brush where you can download the basic package for free and purchase different brush bundles or you can buy the whole program. There are several more programs out there. Feel free to add to this list.

SmoothDraw is a pretty nice program too. It has some nice blending tools and several brushes. The UI setup is nice and simple as well.

If you download the trial version of Sketchbook Pro 7 you can select the option to sign up and get a slightly cut down version for free. This is much better than the elements and mobile versions that are also free.
I'll have to check out Fire Alpaca as I liked Layerpaint on Android.

It's not free, but if you have an older version of Corel Painter, you can upgrade to Corel Painter 2015 for $99 until September 15th.
