The developer of Serious Paint has come out with a funny new app called Painting with Cats. In this program you use different sizes of cats to make pictures. The cats will follow your stylus or run away when you erase. This app is more of a curiosity than a serious art program, but it's lots of fun for cat lovers.

I'll have to try that. When I got the lag, I had it set up at 4,000 by 4,000 pixels. It still worked okay and didn't crash. I was testing it to see if it would go as high as ProCreate does. I think it is probably the equal of Procreate in features, but not as user friendly. I did discover that you can float the brushes menu and position it wherever you want.

Me too. I am finally figuring out how to alter the brushes and canvas size. I noticed there is a lag the bigger your canvas is, but that happens with PC programs too. It probably depends on the computing power of your tablet.

LayerPaint HD has a customizable UI, more brushes, and the ability to make and save new brushes. It is set up much better than the regular version and more user friendly.

Those classes should be great practice! I've been practicing my drawing skills with Sketchbook Pro and Ink lately. They are really easy to use, but I think once you get Clover Paint customized it can be fairly convenient to use for drawing practice. It is a powerful program, if I can figure it out, haha!

Yes, now they try to cover tablet apps in their technology section. They try to cover ipad and android apps both equally. They also have tablet reviews too.

I finally decided to purchase the upgrade to the UI. It basically gives you a bunch of floating pods that you can arrange. You can arrange the color picker, the layer editor, a custom color palette and several other color functions. It is a better layout for tablets as well. You can also dock specialized clovers anywhere you want to while making the menus vanish. I need to play around with it some more. I think the developer would be better served to just have another pro version for the upgraded UI instead of making it an IAP ( which is not easy to find either).

This is probably the holy grail of graphic tablets. It is a fully functional android tablet and it can plug into your PC for work on Windows programs. It's got a 13.3 inch display and HD screen. It also has over 2,000 levels of pressure. The drawback is the price. It costs around $1500 for the 32 GB size. The Windows 8 Cintiq tablet costs even more. These tablets are definitely for the serious professionals! I can dream though, Ha, Ha! Here is the link to it. store.wacom.com/us/en/product/DTHA1300H?

It may be sort of obvious, but some of the best apps for art instruction and reference are the Kindle, Nook, and Zinio apps. The Kindle app is for e-books from Amazon and they have a large selection of art books for under $5. The Nook app is for e-books from Barnes and Noble and magazines, too. Zinio is an app for magazines and you can get subscriptions to art magazines and back issues. One of the best magazines for digital art instruction is Imagine FX. This magazine focuses on SciFi and Fantasy illustration using digital art programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter 13, ArtRage, and ipad and android tablet apps. You can get this magazine in all three apps.

No, it doesn't have the functionality of the Galaxy Note tablets, it's just a huge regular android tablet like the Asus and Acer brands. It doesn't have pressure sensitivity and it's heavy! I think I will watch for the price of the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 to go down. It has gone down about about $100 dollars on Amazon for the 32 GB version and the 64 GB version has gone down $50. Maybe by Christmas, it will be down even more!

Several people have said they can beat the game without IAP's and this latest update makes it easier to earn plants without buying anything. I never pay real money for IAPs either unless it's to get the rest of a Big Fish Game that I tried for free to see if I wanted the full game. I think the company has listened to its customers and has reduced the reliance on IAPs in this game.

Lenovo has come out with a giant 19.5 inch android tablet. It doesn't have a custom stylus, but I suppose one could use a dagi stylus or an adonit jot stylus. The review did say that some apps wouldn't work, so I don't know if all the painting programs would work on it. The tablet is also pretty heavy, weighing about 10 lbs so it wouldn't be very portable or easy to hold. The Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 is a better tablet for drawing, only weighs 1.5 lbs and its price is going down. The price of the Lenovo runs about $350 and you can buy a wireless keyboard and mouse for it. It also has 320 GBs of storage. Here is the link to the review. www.androidheadlines.com/2014/03/featured-lenovo-n308-review.html

One of my favorite game series is the Plants vs. Zombies. I love the graphics and the game is a lot of fun, too. Plants vs Zombies 2 has just received a new update which included a new time zone. in addition to the egypt, pirate, and old west levels there is now a future time zone. It looks like a lot of fun with funky new zombies!

Here is another sketch in Auryn Ink of an old tree by a pond. One of the things I wish Auryn Ink would have is an import function. I would like to make a drawing in SketchBook Ink first and then color it in Auryn Ink. That way, I could make more detailed paintings. However, Auryn Ink is nice for making generic landscape paintings.

Photoshop Touch is mainly used for photo editing, but it does contain some simple brushes. I found an artist on Google+ who does some wonderful paintings just using the simple brushes in Photoshop Touch. As the late great Helen Van Wyk said, an artist can create anything, even if all they have is a stick and a pot of molasses. Here is the link to the gallery. plus.google.com/b/106496807385243284384/117568936974120190041/posts

The app Silk Paints has a new update which includes a playback feature of your drawing and a gallery of other people's drawings. This is a really neat app for drawing special effects or ornate looking drawings. Also the developer is very responsive and helpful with any issues you might have with the app.

One of the things that I like about my 10.1 Galaxy Note is the ability to have windows. Not all apps will work as windows, but there are quite a few that do. One of the most important functions that I use is the gallery app. I use it to load my photo references when I am using a drawing app. However, if you don't have a 10.1 galaxy note, you can use a great app called Floating Apps. This app has several different windows for a browser, image viewer, email, youtube, and several others. It also can take your widgets and make floating apps of them. Since my Note 8 doesn't have floating apps, I installed this app on it. The image viewer is great for using my photo references while I'm using drawing apps. Floating Apps is free to try, but if you want the full version you have to buy it.
