For some reason Android 4.4 does not recognize the little android robot emoticons. Instead it replaces them with happy face icons. Apparently this is intentional on Google's part and I don't understand why. If you have a trademark that everyone knows and likes, why take it away? I like the little robots and I use them all the time. I don't know why Google did that. Sometimes I wonder what is in their coffee at Google HQ, lol.
